Goji Spiced Smoothie

Goji berries contain all essential amino acids, have the highest concentration of protein of any fruit and are very high in vitamin C and carotenoids.  We have both regular goji and organic goji berries in the real food store.   To get the maximum goodness from the berries we prefer the organic ones but unfortunately genuinely certified organic goji berries are almost three times the price of the the world wholesale price of conventional goji. We have sourced the best organic ones we could find and have made them available in the store at the best possible price though you will find our conventional goji berries much cheaper.

This goji infused smoothie gives a great colour and is perfect teamed with maca and cinnamon for a spiced warming kick now we are moving into the cooler months. Sometimes a chilled smoothie is not what we want, yet a post-workout or afternoon snack to boost energy levels is exactly what we crave!  This smoothie can of course be chilled but I like to drink it freshly made at room temperature.

Don't skimp on the coconut water as this gives it extra sweetness and a unique flavour that water alone doesn't offer. However saying that, by all means try substituing different liquids or milks to suit your fancy and adjust spices to suit. if you are not a fan of cinnamon, try ginger or even keep it simple with vanilla.

Recipe: Goji Spiced Smoothie

Serves 1-2

Ingredients: 

  • 1 large banana
  • 1 ½ cups coconut water
  • 1 heaped tbs chia
  • 2 tbs goji berries
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp maca (optional)

Method: 

Blend until totally smooth, thick and creamy.  Sprinkle some extra chia or goji's on top if desired.
