Shea & Cocoa Body Butter..... good enough to eat!
/
If you're putting good stuff in your body it makes sense to also put good stuff on it! Since the skin is the largest organ of the body it seems crazy to slather it in chemicals. Everything in this bar is made from edible grade oils and foods which means they are the best quality available, not the lower grade cosmetic presses.
This recipe combines the nourishing properties of shea and cocoa butter. I have added some dried chickpeas (kidney beans in the photograph at the bottom) so that when the bar runs on my arms/legs I get a massage at the same time, but of course you can omit these if you prefer as they will fall out as you use the bar up.
You can also add a touch of our vanilla powder if you would like a scented variety too, I love the natural option as it smells subtly of white chocolate!
I have also made a variation (details below) that was less solid by adding edible sweet almond oil into the mix. This would be great poured into a tin or jar as a moisturising oil.
Recipe: Shea & Cocoa Body Butter Bar
Makes approximately 3-4 bars (depending on size)
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup shea butter
- 1/2 cup cocoa butter drops
- dried beans or chickpeas (optional for a massage bar)
- OPTIONAL FOR LESS SOLID MOISTURISER - 1/2 cup sweet almond oil
Method:
Scoop the shea butter into a bowl and add the cocoa butter drops. Melt gently in a water bath over the stove until fully melted. Add the almond oil if using and stir through.
Pour into silicone muffins cases to approx. 2-3 cm thick. If you are making the less solid option with almond oil pour into tins or jars. Allow to set firm in the fridge then pop out of the cases. These are fine stored at room temperature, but also in the fridge or freezer if preferred until use.
Note: in the second picture I used a higher ratio of shea butter to cocoa and the resulting bar was a little bit crumbly as you can just about see in the photo (I also used red kidney beans in that one!)
